|What Sets Us Apart
Safety, guest enjoyment, and employee satisfaction drive ARS and ACA operations. We are committed to delivering experiences that will make your Alaska visit the vacation of a lifetime. While creating memories, the company thrives to be a strong community member as well as leader. This is exemplified in the efforts to maintain green operations and the innovation of new tour products to Ketchikan and Alaska! The company was the second zipline in the nation and first in the State of Alaska. It is this experience that provided unsurpassed excellence for our guests.
During the renovation of the Herring Cove property, restoration of a non-operating historic sawmill located in a corner of the ARS property was completed. This custom-cut mill was operated by legendary pioneer Ben Fleenor for 50 years. Guided wildlife sanctuary tours commenced in 2004; they include a visit to the Herring Bay Lumber Company mill in honor of Ben Fleenor. A master Native Totem pole carver was added to the tour in 2005. In 2007, the non-profit organization “Alaska Wildlife Foundation” was founded and provides the opportunity to see raptors up close while a specialist explains the heritage of the different species. In addition to the enhancements to the tour product, the company invested in infrastructure that not only supports operations, but also the surrounding area.
After the renovation was completed, over 80 tons of trash was hauled away. New buildings have replaced rotten or fallen buildings as well as the new trail through the Tongass National Forest. Furthermore, continuous snow plowing or other road improvements are just some examples of the company’s contribution to the neighborhood it operates within. Local organizations and non-profits also benefit from what the company contributes, from team building to fundraiser donations.
Customer satisfaction is important to the success of our company. Therefore, we value the continuous comments and feedback from our guests. As a result, the company became the recipient of the following awards: “The Golden Totem” for innovation by the Ketchikan Visitor’s Bureau (2004), “Excellence in Tourism Award” from the Ketchikan Visitor’s Bureau (2005) and cruise line designated “Tour of the Year” awards in both Ketchikan and Juneau for five consecutive years (2006-2010). In addition, the Zipline courses continually rank in the top 5 on “Trip Advisor” top attractions. These achievements are what make continuous improvements to the experience, safety or quality, and it is the best in the industry!
